Stamp Out Oncho is a campaign idea that Cloud9Media came up with on behalf of the Mectizan Donation Programme, to galvanise ministers of health around Africa to take an interest in eliminating the crippling and unnecessary disease, onchocerciasis or River Blindness.
The success of the campaign, to get everyone to take Mectizan to protect them from River Blindness, has been enabled by village health workers like Edoa Pierre, one of many community drug distributors who travel miles and miles to deliver Mectizan in communities around Cameroon.
Flying Start: The Ripple Effect
Two stories of two lives impacted by the ripple effect of Flying Start.
Client: British Airways
Sector: Corporate Comms + Global Health
Working in partnership with Comic Relief and building on our understanding of British Airways’ brand requirements, we devised a concept for this inflight fundraising film, based on capturing real interviews with the real change-makers of the future from two sides of the world. The ripple effect of our actions can have a wide-reaching impact.
This film is currently played 40 minutes before landing on all mid- and long-haul flights.
We also made an accompanying Longer Version for internal colleague engagement that is a core part of British Airways’ Flying Start campaign.
Flying Start has raised over £25 million to date from inflight and colleague donations.
Stamp Out Onchocerciasis!
Riverblindess still affects many across Africa - but there is hope.
Client: Mectizan Donation Programme
Sector: Global Health
Getting people to stand up and take action is at the core of the Mectizan Donation Programme’s remit. Especially when the intended audience are Ministers of Health in African countries. This is the first of a series of films intended to get key influencers to commit to putting their name to a 30 year-long elimination programme – ridding Africa of River Blindness or onchocerciasis. If we work together we can stamp out oncho!
We used a local fixer to go in search of stories that were set up in advance of our shooting producer director’s arrival. We then worked with a wonderful local photographer and camera assistant to create a more integrated team and integrate more in to remote and challenging settings.
It started off a relationship with Cameroon and Nigeria that continues to this day, adding to the list of the many African countries that we have ties with.
Sightsavers delivers the one billionth treatment for River Blindness, a parasite-borne condition that leads to severe disability and the destruction of entire communities. Because of mass treatment programmes like those run by Sightsavers, young children like Dorcas can live a very different life to her grandfather, who was made blind by river blindness.
Cloud9Media was there to witness this incredible moment – reminding us how incredibly important this work is.
