Our Year in Business Comms 2020
Article

When making Business Communications films, we pride ourselves in delivering video that fosters engagement, getting to the heart of organisations by showing the real personalities that create a company. This year has, of course, had the biggest impact on the way businesses operate in recent memory. People have been kept apart from their colleagues for months on end. After the initial shock of the pandemic hitting, our clients quickly realised it was important to nurture their company community and keep staff engaged and motivated. This has meant that despite the restrictions of the global pandemic, we’ve had a busy time – so here’s a snapshot of our year in Business Comms for 2020.
We started the year, having just returned from New York, covering FICO WORLD for one of our longest standing clients FICO, travelling to South Africa to create a film for the Comic Relief British Airways partnership, Flying Start, and another trip to Vienna and Budapest, looking at the green energy initiatives of Marriott International.
It wasn’t long before live events and international travel ground to a halt. While many tech companies were minimally impacted, some got a lot busier. Everyone spent more time online – including the criminals who saw an opportunity. Cyber fraud and financial crime levels surged.
FICO provides cutting edge technology to the financial industry to combat it. They realised it was more important than ever for them to continue to communicate efficiently both within their business and to their clients, but with contributors stuck in far flung locations, producing high quality, engaging video that had a clear message was going to throw up some new challenges.
We worked quickly to develop new systems to manage shoots remotely, drawing on our experience in the Global Health sector of sourcing the best local crews, and directing via Zoom, we learnt how to make sure everyone in our team was working to a shared vision, even across continents!
Here’s a little behind the scenes of how we made our first fully remotely directed film for FICO.

We’ve also been working on some new projects for World Courier, an international medical courier company that are dealing with many new challenges during the pandemic.
Eager to tell the story of how their dedicated team stepped up to play their part in the fight against COVID-19, we have been working with their couriers in Columbia, creating a comprehensive briefing pack to help them self–shoot footage using their phones, telling the story on the ground through their eyes.
We’ve worked hard on furthering our coaching and consultation services this year too. With business leaders having to take more control of their tech requirements, we’ve spent time teaching people how to get the most out of Zoom presentations, webinar hosting and virtual board meetings. No job has been too small, and we’ve loved sharing some of our tips of the trade, to help leaders develop their skills whilst looking and feeling more confident.
We’re looking forward to many more exciting projects in 2021. Whilst we hope we’ll be able to make our way back to working with more people face to face, we’re sure many of the new working systems and techniques we’ve developed this year will stand us in good stead for months to come.
