Sustainability
Films for a thriving future
As our world faces unprecedented challenges, new frontiers of sustainability are paving the way to a brighter future. Change is coming, driven by organisations committed to working with nature.
These are the stories the world needs now. We’re here to tell them.
Case study: Nice Rice: The Trip
The challenge
Newly launched in Waitrose and Ocado, sustainable rice brand Nice Rice needed a way to communicate the heart of their mission—sustainable sourcing and fair trade—while keeping their passionate founder, Fergus Sullivan, at the center of the story. Fergus had recently traveled to India to visit the farmers behind their product, capturing stunning footage with local photographers and videographers. The challenge? Turning this raw content into a series of engaging, bite-sized social media videos that would captivate audiences, showcase their mission, and build brand awareness.
Our solution
To ensure Fergus came across naturally despite his camera shyness, we opted for an informal, podcast-style voiceover—allowing his passion to shine through effortlessly. We then structured his interview into four distinct narrative-driven stories, each tailored for maximum impact on social media. Using Nice Rice’s brand guidelines, we applied slick, dynamic editing techniques to create high-energy, thumb-stopping content designed for digital-first audiences. And with their office just across from ours in Shepherds Building, collaboration was seamless, ensuring quick feedback and fine-tuned execution.
The outcome
The result? A resounding success. After an initial 6K organic viewers this rose to 20K, generating unprecedented engagement for the brand. The client was thrilled proving the power of strong storytelling in driving both awareness and commercial impact.
We had a great experience working with Cloud9. Our challenge was creating engaging, social ready reels using existing video content that wasn’t in the correct 9:16 format, and all required within a tight deadline. The team quickly understood our objectives and timelines, and delivered high quality on brand videos that have received great feedback. Really recommend!

This film is one of a four part series for Nice Rice, winners of The Future of Food 2024, made with footage that company owner Fergus obtained on a recent trip to India, filmed by a local cameraman.
Let’s face it, although being an inspired entrepreneur, Fergus is better in conversation than when reading off a script. So we decided to do an audio-only interview – podcast-style – to put him at ease away from the bright lights and cameras, allowing him to speak naturally. We chopped a long conversation down in to 4 standalone films, that our in-house editor Bruno turned in to some really cool, punchy films for social media.
And with their offices across the corridor from ours in the Shepherds Building, collaborating on this project couldn’t have been easier. We get a lot of free rice now – and it’s quite nice!

As part of the Catalyst Initiative led by Climate KIC, we produced a two-year impact film reflecting on the legacy of Climathon across Latin America and West Africa. The film steps back from individual events to explore what has grown over time: local climate-innovation ecosystem, and a new generation of innovators finding their voice and community.
Grounded in interviews and driven by data-led storytelling, the film brings two regions together in a shared narrative of collaboration and measurable climate impact. Participants described the programme as life-changing, and witnessing everyone’s passion for tackling climate challenges at a community level left us deeply inspired.
Notice the use of graphics to amplify the messaging and make best of use of limited footage filmed by the delegates themselves across the world.
We created three language versions (English, French, Spanish) to give the films the widest reach possible.

As part of Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s Green Innovator, we created this two-minute film to capture the energy and impact of local climate innovation in the borough. Filmed across workshops and the final Pitch Night at Scale Space in White City, the film follows five participants as they develop and present ideas tackling challenges from energy and circularity to transport and nature.
Rather than over-scripted interviews, we focused on live moments; pitches delivered on stage, and reflections and reactions immediately after the awards. We allowed the story to unfold in real time. Through centering diverse founders and first-time innovators, the film highlights the power of social modelling and representation, showing that climate action really can come from anyone.
The client praised how the film captured the buzz, tension and excitement in the room.
Along with this hero film we delivered three portrait shorts for social media.
It has since been used to celebrate grassroots innovation, and showcase the borough as a growing hub for green enterprise.

Gautier from The Green Londoner approached Cloud9Media with a challenge: to help Londoners engage with the truth about farmed salmon and take action.
With the nearest coast being 40 miles from us in London, we leapt at the challenge to deliver on the impossible. We worked on some visual prompts to get shock reactions and a cascade of questions to launch on an unsuspecting public – then we hit the roads.
The truth about Salmon farming is that it is an industry and commonplace. What they don’t tell you is the suffering the fish undergo, swimming in circles crowded like prisoners in the ocean. Sea-lice spreads, wide-reach antibiotics are administered and the salmon become ghosts of their former selves. We wanted to see what the public would say when they saw the truth.
Getting people to talk on camera takes enthusiasm and a strong sense of persuasion; hard when our pavements are crowded with charity-hunters. This was no obstacle for us though, as we are driven by a passion for seeing all creatures on this planet treated humanely – and love speaking to members of the public.
After a day of taking to the streets of London, we realised that while people were shocked, we couldn’t give any simple valuable alternatives. So this film is one of a series, as we go in search of the answers to farmed salmon alternatives from different players in the field, that us animal-conscious consumers will gobble up.
We’re now working with GSFR and Curious PR to seek wider funding and engagement with this bold but effective advocacy campaign.
So put down that cheap farmed salmon you just cooked
and sign up here to take action on stopping salmon farming now!

Earthfest 2025 video: Hope often starts with a simple act: imagining the world you want to see.
As EarthFest’s chosen film partner, we set up a stand to run a creative experiment – inviting people to step into their dream future and describe it in vivid detail. What does it sound like? Smell like? Feel like? this video from Earthfest 2025 asks this question.
We asked passersby to open up about their concerns and their hopes. Many began with, “Oh, you don’t want me on camera,” but soon found themselves sharing something honest and powerful. Everyone has something to say – our job is to help them feel safe enough to say it.
The result is Seeing is Believing – a short film exploring how visualising a better world can spark a genuine sense of hope. At a time when it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, this was a joyful, affirming reminder that change begins with imagination.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council asked us to produce a film supporting their new Hammersmith & Fulham Climate Bond film initiative. It’s designed to engage the local community in funding ecological projects. The client wanted a compelling story that explained benefits, encouraged participation, and showcased the council’s ambitious target of creating a carbon net zero borough by 2030.
Our brief was to make the content engaging, informative, and shareable while reflecting the council’s environmental values. To meet this, we created a film that highlighted how residents, local groups, businesses, and external investors could make a direct impact in their community while earning a fixed return on a low-risk investment. We emphasised the positive outcomes of the Climate Bond, demonstrating how the funds would support carbon reduction projects and foster community-led climate action. Sustainability was central to the production. We meticulously tracked and reduced emissions at every stage using the Ad Green Calculator. The team cycled to shoots, used an e-cargo bike for travelling footage, ate vegetarian meals on set, and powered our office with certified renewable energy.
This resulted in a total production footprint of just 0.018t CO2e—far below the industry average—reflecting our commitment to environmentally responsible filmmaking. The film played a key role in raising awareness and funding. The first round of the Climate Bond exceeded expectations, reaching £1 million ahead of schedule. The success of this campaign underlined the power of film to communicate complex initiatives, inspire community participation, and reinforce the council’s commitment to sustainability. The project continues to support the second round of funding, demonstrating the enduring value of strategic, purpose-driven video content in promoting climate action and civic engagement.

Biodiversity and access & benefit sharing expert Bupe Mwambingu from Basecamp Research reached out just a few days before flying to the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP 15).
As a purpose-driven organisation in service of a thriving future for our planet, we jumped on the opportunity to satisfy our curiosity and better understand one of COP’s hottest issues.
With no brief but a fascinating interview, we decided to apply our formula of truth & magic to building a short story from Bupe’s best soundbites and relevant b-roll footage, plus some well-chosen music, to make it relatable and increase its emotional power.
These are the stories the world needs to hear now – and we’re here to tell them.

LATAM Climathon Sustainability:
The EU’s Climate KIC team wanted to capture the remarkable work in seeding sustainability ideas thanks to their Climathons, run across the globe. This one features the LATAM region.
So we sent out a filming brief document to teams across Latin America and West Africa with filming guidelines in order to grab a snapshot of what went on in 27 countries!
As with all user-generated content the material we got back was of mixed quality. So we devised a graphical format and a pacing for the films that soon turned raw amateur footage in to a compelling argument for why people should attend these remarkable events.
“The end result was EXCELLENT! They did a great job at digesting a lot information and content, and working with them was easy and very pleasant. They take the time to really understand what you need and want to achieve.”
